Jonathan’s visit

This week, Jonathan Cazabonne visited Ghent University and #TeamLaboul. Jonathan is a Master student at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Canada and is interested in integrative taxonomy, evolution, community ecology, and conservation. Danny and Jonathan have collaborated since 2020 and this collaboration has thus far resulted in a perspective on the importance of combining molecular-based studies with field surveys, a research paper on biological knowledge shortfalls, and an opinion piece about singleton-based species and fungal rarity.

Jonathan interacted with the students, helped out in the lab making microscope mounts, developed projects, discussed grants, and continued writing on a number of manuscripts with Danny. No less than ten manuscripts are in preparation—about a variety of topics including knowledge shortfalls (we are proposing a new shortfall named after Laboulbeniales godfather Roland Thaxter!), fungal checklists, and eponymy. Jonathan, it was great to have you here in person, come back again soon!
