Danny and his students presented several talks and posters at the 12th International Congress of Mycology in Maastricht, the Netherlands from 11 to 15 August 2024.
Danny was invited to speak during the symposium “Fungal resources of tropical Africa symposium”, along with other experts Annemieke Verbeken, Cathrin manz, Meike Piepenbring, Michael Poulsen, and Nourou Soulemane Yorou. He presented on understudied fungi in Africa focusing on both Laboulbeniomycetes and Leotiomycetes. Recently graduated Master student Aimée Blondelle orally presented her research on bat-associated Laboulbeniales during the Early Career Mycologists symposium. PhD student Michiel de Groot presented an oral presentation on his experimental ecology research with Hesperomyces harmoniae. Posters on Beetlehangers; Frederik De Wint’s new database for insect-associated Hypocreales fungi, EntomoFun; a genomic scale-based placement of Laboulbeniomycetes among Ascomycota; and FunDive were also presented by our group.
Finally, Danny, along with close collaborators Julia Pawłowska and C. Alisha Quandt, was awarded a Young Mycologist Award by the International Mycological Association!
